The Glenboro Community Development Corporation has reinstated the annual Christmas lights celebration, and Glenboro responded by getting lit! Beautiful lights have been showing our community at its best, and the competition, sponsored by the GCDC, was judged on December 18, 2022 by GCDC elves!
First prize has been awarded to Len and Cynthia Holm on Donald Avenue. Len and Cynthia’s display wraps around their entire home, glowing with multi-coloured lights and red candy canes, as well as bright red cardinals, snowmen, and a series of tiny sparkling light strands outlining every structure. The Holms will receive a basket full of seasonal decor and treats, as well as complimentary passes to the Glenboro Theatre and other donated items.
Runners up were Keyghen & Mike Pilon and Bruce & Georgina Anderson — judges couldn’t decide between these two properties, as both were exceptional in very different ways! The Pilon family’s house is surrounded by a sea of lights and Christmas decor. The Anderson’s looks like the perfect chocolate box illustration of Christmas, with lit trees and other decor brightening the entire lot. Both runners up received large poinsettia plants. (Similar plants are still available at Glenboro’s Petals and Presents!)
There were so many excellent displays, we had to add a list of Honorable Mentions. These include, in no particular order, Quinn Clemis & Sandy Kemp (a study in blue), Irene & Dwayne Drinkwater (with a variety of bright, multicoloured lights and glowing animal figurines), Norm Stilkowski (for sheer volume of lights and decor), and Bob Thompson (whose line of outdoor decorated trees makes you look up, hoping to see Santa and his reindeer!).
It was clear that great effort was put into all the light displays, and we can’t thank those who took part enough. Go out and have a look, enjoy the beauty of our village, and make plans for next year, because the GCDC fully intends to make this a regular, annual event.
